Flatfoot

Arts & Culture

Set in Ancient Rome, the story follows playwright Titus Maccius Plautus (Drew Forsythe) who has to convince his producer, Crassus Dived (John Gregg) that his new play will be a hit and won’t offend the Roman Censor. Trouble is, the play hasn’t yet been written. But Plautus is not about to tell Crassus that. So he acts it out before the cynical producer – making it up as he goes along – and with a little help from his Greek wife, ex-dancer and seductress extraordinaire, Cleostrata (Tina Burstill), plays out over 15 characters in a wild farce of epic proportions. The result – a masterful, delightfully absurd and slightly unexpected comedy from Australia’s foremost playwright.
