Sweat It Out Vol II Tour
with
ACT YO AGE
ZackyBoi
Jeremy J
Battle Kat
Act Yo Age are entering the building. Coming live and direct from a love bunker deep in the neon gothic forests of Cadence, bringing forbidden sonic fruits to the hungry club masses across this universe and the next. Part werewolf, part pussycat, part robot love machine, collectively AYA bring a wealth of musical experience, with fifteen years between them.
They do not go quietly, nor do they travel unarmed, they pack an attitude adjustment ray gun set to decimate and aimed squarely at any demon or dancer that knows how to shake and bake. They live for dress ups and die for a dance competition in the toilets, they believe all that glitters is not gold, nor kryptonite for that matter. They are often to be found on midnight forays for rainbow dust, pixie blood and endlessness itself, that nearly always end in tears.
They have been hyped and tipped to be the next hot thing, but these two beat freaks say they will be content with a rumble in the bassbins, a zap in the speakers and nothing less than murder on the dancefloor. But then that’s as likely as George Bush wanting peace in the middle east. Remix credits already include Malente, Princess Superstar, Franz & Shape, Grafton Primary and Arrested Development, they are the sauna you don’t have and the steam room you wanted.
Their first mix compilation ‘Sweat It Out Vol 2’ through Ajax’s very own label drops May 9th…eclectic yet electric!
Celebrating this clubland masterpiece Act Yo Age play Cadence that very night. Saturday May 9 alongside Zackyboi, Jeremy J & Battle Kat.

LEE MORTIMER (UK - Ministry of Sound Resident, Wearhouse, Dubsided)
Supported by
Crasey
Jeremy J
BattleKAt
Lee Mortimer (AKA Sawtooth Sucka) has been steadily making waves with his productions and DJ sets by taking every opportunity to supply ears with exciting, sleaze-filled fidget house.
Lee has firmly established himself as a top-notch recording artist and has had tracks and remixes on CR2, Front Room Recordings, Made To Play, .dotbleep Recordings, Odori, Aquasky's Passenger Records and many more. Dave Taylor's Dubsided Records have recently knocked on the door too and a series of EP's are being knocked out.
No prizes for guessing then that love for Lee's tracks has come from all corners of the dance music world. This includes support from Switch, Pete Tong, Claude VonStroke, Diplo, Dave Spoon, Crookers, Annie Mac, Jesse Rose, Paul Woolford, Micky Slim, Derrick Carter and loads more to boot!
Lee’s DJ-ing roots are in the underground, sweaty clubs, late nights, Stella Artois and Sambuca. This motto has followed him wherever he has played including as far a field as San Francisco (EndUp), Ibiza (Filth) and Brisbane (Family)..and of course Cairns now, plus all of the UK's top spots- Ministry Of Sound (were he is resident), Turnmills, The Egg, Back To Basics, The Custard Factory etc.
Lee has been rewarded for his passion and hard work by being picked by Ministry of Sound to be their brand new monthly resident.
Now concentrating his efforts into his own label, Wearhouse Music, Lee has come into his own with his production creativity and A&R skills with all tracks getting majorly caned! Seriously check out his myspace link to have a listen - he can't put a foot wrong both in the studio and on the dance floor!
We are also welcoming back one of Cairns favourite and finest DJ's to emerge over the last year or two in Crasey. Having spent the last 6 months travelling, partying and mixing up a storm we are sure you will agree this will be a fitting home coming. So lets all get in and make sure he feels that love we all have for his sound.
This is the official closing party for Cadence Lounge & Bar before it closes its doors for a new look, new name and a all new vibe that is set to give Cairns and Nth QLD a new home for our favourite clubbing sounds and people. So let's see the ass end of this club with some proper antics!!

Open Mic Singer/Songwriter night every Thursday hosted by James Braithwaite
A true community event in the finest tradition, the Macrossan Street Parade has long been a highlight of the Carnivale festival and regularly draws crowds of up to several thousand who line the high street to cheer for their sports teams, their corporate floats and, usually, their friends and colleagues.
This year the Macrossan Street Parade is introduced by the Kuku Yalanji 'Our People Our Culture' performance and exhibiition from 4:30 - 6:30pm
Visitors flock to the parade too, as the sense of community spirit and pride is such a tangible part of this Carnivale highlight. It matters not how great or lesser a float: its being there that counts. Some are extravagant, some are simple; all are applauded.
Come early and get a vantage point along Macrossan Street, which will be closed off during the afternoon to faciliate the parade. Street entertainment commences from around 5.30pm, with the float procession getting underway at about 7.00pm (its difficult to be precise!).
After the parade comes the fireworks – everyone’s favourite. All night long, fun can be had for everyone at the amusement park set up at the seafront end of Macrossan Street.
Carnivale’s opening event, the Macrossan Street Parade, will be starting earlier this year with market and food stalls and bars ready by 4.30pm. A new event " Our People Our Culture” will open the festivities.
The Kuku Yalanji people are the traditional owners and custodians of the Douglas region. With this event, Our People Our Culture, they express their traditions through weaving, song and dance. The event begins with a ‘Welcome to Country’. This is a speech by an elder of the Kuku Yalanji people, which is protocol for special events taking place in their traditional lands.
‘Welcome to Country’ acknowledges the unique position of Aboriginal people in Australian culture and history as the original custodians of the land. It follows with an invitation to the wider community to share in the Kuku Yalanji culture and heritage.
The Walker family, widely known throughout the Kuku Yalanji lands, will lead the experience of Our People Our Country, with the Walker Brothers Band presenting modern indigenous music, plus a set of traditional song and dance. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to engage with the rich and ancient culture of the people of the Port Douglas & Daintree district.

When & Where
The 3 heats are to be held. 1st heat Julatten 13 May - Highlander Tavern, 2nd heat Port Douglas 20 May at Court House Hotel, 3rd heat North Mossman 23 May at the Mossman Golf Club and the final to be held at the Court House in Port Douglas Friday 29 May
What
The concept of the Douglas Songwriter's challenge is to give local musicians a chance to publicly perform their own original music. Songwriters must provide a copy of their lyrics for the judges and perform their own original song at one of the 3 heats. Each of the 3 judges scores the song out of 20. During the heats artists can perform a maximum of 2 songs with a maximum of 2 musicians. Marks are not given for singing and/or musical ability but rather for the song itself. The 3 highest scoring songs from each heat progress to the final. Entry is free and open to novice and professional performers.
After a hugely popular 2008 competition this year’s songwriter’s challenge promises to be bigger and better with regional heats estimated to draw over 50 entries. Several prizes are up for grabs and the final award is the prestigious Songwriter’s challenge trophy and a studio recording of the winning song.
Prize: 1st prize is $500 cash plus studio time to record the winning song.

Consider everything you think you know about Evermore. Run through their history, of brothers Jon, Peter and Dann Hume growing up in the rural New Zealand town of Feilding and finding their feet as musicians. Reflect on their breakthrough 2004 debut Dreams and its beautifully crafted follow-up, 2006's Real Life, selling platinum and double platinum. Look at their six ARIA Award nominations, two NZ Music Awards, Channel [V] and MTV gongs, and the high esteem in which music fans and peers hold them. Gather those thoughts for a moment - then get ready to be blown away.
"It's the album we've been wanting to make since we started the band," says singer and guitarist Jon, 25. "It's a concept album that takes inspiration from trashy media and political propaganda, and turns it into a fun, over the top rock'n'roll show." It's an impressive united vision that began as abstract thoughts and came together into a solid concept over 18 months in the band's studio near their new home city of Melbourne. The result, the beautifully crafted Truth Of The World: Welcome To The Show, is one of the most ambitious albums you'll ever hear. A grandiose piece of music that plays out like a modern brave new world rock opera, its foundation is built on a fictional news broadcast and branches out to paint aural pictures of a space saturated with cheap consumer pleasures, ads, channel-surfing sound effects and catchphrases woven into a rich musical tapestry.
"We put all our ideas down on paper if as we were writing a movie script. The scenes dictated how the music should sound under it, so it pushed us in different directions musically and vocally." Jon adds. "We came up with the concept and followed it through completely, ruthlessly. Anything that didn't fit in 100 per cent with what we were trying to achieve, we just threw it out."
And while it takes a daring band to attempt such a grand feat, it takes a truly great one to execute it to perfection. "I really wanted a writing challenge and to find some kind of voice to say things in a way we hadn't before," Dann says. "You need confidence, but I think we've always been quietly confident. In the studio, you have to think you can pull off anything." Produced exquisitely by Jon, Truth Of The World certainly flows like a single piece of music with lyrics and melodies thread seamlessly between very different songs. Synth-rock stompers "Between The Lines" and "Hey Boys And Girls (Truth Of The World Pt. 2)" showcase the band at their swaggering confident best. Then there's the typewriter-tapping "Front Page Story/Diamonds In The River", which moves from a melancholic ivory-tinkering ballad into a tribal groove-laden epic. "Tonight On The Show (Truth Of The World Pt. 1)" and the later "Infotainmentology (Truth Of The World Pt. 3)", feature complementing melodies and infectious Beatlesque pop breakdowns shine a light on the skill of both band and producer to weave together so many pieces of music together as a focused and cohesive whole.
