Until his untimely passing in 2007, South African born LUCKY DUBE was one of the most influential artists of his time, swiftly approaching the legendary status of his predecessor, Bob Marley.
Along with Lucky on his rise to fame was the Lucky Dube Band "One People" and Thuthukani Cele. The band was one of the most evocative group of musicians to ever come out of South Africa and walked hand in hand with Lucky in making some the most enjoyable, and memorable music of the 21st century.
Thuthukani and the whole Lucky Dube "One People" Band along with former Bob Marley Stage Manager/Wailers Band Business Manager Mark Miller and Lucky's manager David Jacobs are presenting their own 'tribute' to Lucky Dube with a blistering performance of original Lucky Dube tracks plus new and original music the band are currently recording in Johannesburg.
The "LUCKY DUBE CELEBRATION TOUR" is a show not to be missed, and the tour begins late in 2009 in the South Pacific followed by a World Tour starting early 2010.
Coming live to Brothers World of Entertainment, the Lucky Dube Celebration Tour starring "ONE PEOPLE" is one show not to be missed. The real sound of Lucky Dube and South Africa moves you, grooves you, loves you even more...

Paving a new direction in the restaurant and bar experience, Salt House at Marina Point in Cairns opened its doors last weekend.
With breathtaking waterfront views across the marina, a plethora of modern Aussie cuisine delicacies and a stunning selection of wines, both by the bottle and from the glass, the stylish Salt House venue launched to a massive gala event on Friday evening and an even bigger weekend of ongoing celebration.
Directors Fintan Rafferty and Lui Garozzo took years to research their concept, from travelling to view the world’s most acclaimed venues, such as The Shore Club in South Beach, Florida and Ku De Ta in Bali, to make sure they were heading in the right direction.
Mr Rafferty said the ideal behind Salt House was to merge the ambience of Far North Queensland with a key restaurant, bar and entertainment venue, resulting in something which hasn’t been seen before in the region.
He said checking out venues in similar climates around the world gave good inspiration, specifically Ku De Ta.
“It was a pub, it was a restaurant, it was a music venue all in one,” he said.
“It had a relaxed atmosphere… it’s a real melting pot.”
Both the local directors (and owners) are from strong hospitality backgrounds – Fintan from a service perspective having owned La Pizza on the Esplanade for many years, and Lui from a food background that spans generations – so they were well placed to know what positives and negatives to look for when creating their dream venue.
Lui’s passion lay in creating a top quality restaurant / bar environment where utilising the best local produce and creating a unique and tropical-flavoured menu was paramount, while Fintan’s heart lay in entertainment, trying to provide not only a restaurant and a bar, but also a mini entertainment precinct – all within Salt House.
“There seemed to be lacking a quality entertainment venue that wasn’t focused specifically on the backpacker market in Cairns, and wasn’t just about entertainment,” Fintan said.
“We wanted to create a quality venue that was well-priced, family friendly, and a location that was great, so it gave us lots of scope to include different function areas.
“This site leant itself to a public bar, public and private dining areas, and areas for live music and a DJ booth.”
From passion, and considerable patience across many years of work, the ethos of Salt House was borne.
And with the successful launch and already rave reviews, it certainly seems the Salt House dream has become a reality that will pave a new direction for venues in Far North Queensland for years to come.
Featuring: Funky Love Tank (Funk/Progressive/Soul Band)

Campaign posters from the archives of the Anti-Discrimination Commission Qld
Eighteen years ago, it became illegal in Queensland to discriminate against people on the basis of their sex, marital status, pregnancy, parental status, race, age, impairment, lawful sexual activity, religion, political belief or activity, trade union activity or the fact that a woman is breastfeeding.
As well as enshrining these rights and responsibilities in law, the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 set out the function and powers of the Anti-Discrimination Commission Qld.
One of the first and most important tasks for the Commission was to educate the community - to break down the discriminatory cultures of employers, service providers, schools, hospitals ... indeed any place where people were not always given a fair go.
This exhibition, curated by ADCQ Librarian, Helen Bannerman, shows how artists and graphic designers have taken complex and emotive issues and, often using humour, turned long-held perceptions on their heads. The ADCQ material is complemented by offerings from other anti-discrimination bodies.

The Hotshots Big Band draws it's players from Cairns and all Tableland centres. With up to 20 players in the band it is most likely the only non-military, non-television, working big band in the country.
The band provides music for balls and dances; they play for events such as the 'Grey Nomad" gathering, and have performed at sell-out concerts at Brothers Leagues Club in Cairns. In most cases, the expectation is that next year's booking will come from each job they do.
With the same instrumentation as the big bands of the War era the music played covers many styles. Female and male vocals are also a part of the standard repertoire.

VIKARIOUS (acoustic pop/funk) is a live duo often accompanied by guests. They have been on the Cairns music scene for the last two years, playing most of the popular live venues between Port Douglas, Mission Beach, the Tablelands area, and have recently played in New Zealand.
Their repertoire spans the ages with contemporary tunes and some old favourites, including covers by Ben Harper, John Mayer, Foo Fighters, James Brown, Prince, and Stevie Wonder, to mention a few.
Elias Wright fronts the line up on vocals and percussion backed by the choppy acoustic style of Zdenek Styk on guitar and keyboards. Both Elias and Zdenek have a wealth of experience between them, and the youthful energy and spontaneity of Elias is grounded by the skill and maturity of Zdenek lending the duo a dynamic solid fluidity.
We welcome back favourites Elias, Zdenek, with Brett Evans on saxophone, and special guests from Koahlition, and are proud that Kuranda is their home town. You’ll love this gig, and VIKARIOUS will have you dancin’ the night away, so enjoy a meal, sip on a mango daiquirie, and enjoy our Christmas Members Night at the Understage.
A Rollicking Sideshow Adventure. Ouch but fun!!
Grab your stack hats and smelling salts - the Freaks are coming to Cairns!!!
Shep Huntly and Patrick Bath (aka The Dirty Brothers, The League of Sideshow Superstars ), princes of Carnival Sideshow have wowed audiences at The Sydney Opera House, the Edinburgh Festival and many other flash and funky events! Fresh from their European tour, they have us in their sights and are bringing to Cairns a genre of theatre it hasn't seen before.
Carnival Sideshow is dangerous and sexy, peppered with frightening and amusing stunts. It is circus and cabaret on steroids. To help; think marriage between the Tokyo Shock boys and Cirque Du Soleil!!
This edgy genre of performance has proven popular with young people nationally and internationally and is attracting new audiences to theatre.
Three of our homegrown freaks Rubbershorts Pegrum, Sophia Scarlett and Piers Strangeypants are sharpening their swords, polishing their stainless steal nails and flexing their triple jointed hips in eager anticipation.
Sparks will literally fly, as the 5 join forces for "Fools, Freaks and Femme Fatales"
Dancehouse classical ballet, jazz, modern, tap dance students and the little ballerinas are proud to present the much loved childhood classic "Thumbelina".
Follow Thumbelina's journey from the fairy tale beginning being born amongst rose petals, to being kidnapped by the toads, rescued by the butterflies, stolen by Mr Beetle and then discarded. Left to freeze in winter, rescued by Mrs Mouse only to be thrust upon the mole in an arranged marriage. Escaping Thumbelina saves the swallow, who in turn saves her, taking her to the flower fairies where she meets her prince. What a story! Promises to be a bright, colourful and entertaining show.
