Torres Strait Islander Thomas Ray Ahwang uses numerous layers of painting overlaid with carving to weave a gentle and lyrical story about the differences between the Indigenous and modern worlds. Ahwang will be introduced at Pandanus Gallery on Saturday, November 14 at a function from 2-5pm.
A unique exhibition showcasing a spread of leaves scattered across the space made up totally from re-cycled objects - the use of discarded clothing and old coat-hangers as well as laminated display sheets from past events. Every piece contains a history and differing memories that is now adding to the present in a renewed format. Each leaf is cut and stitched by hand: A depiction of a carpet of colour.
