Hayley Gillespie’s Revelation is a figurative interpretation of the literal transposition of biblical and European myth and tradition on to the Australian landscape. The story looks at the similarities of belief systems, stories and fables from one side of the world to the other, as well as the indoctrination of some and suppression of others. The work is fashioned in a European illustrative style, with dark elements throughout, as in the Grimm and Anderson vein, as well as the dark side of the Bible.
“My studies for this have been a long interest in Religion and mythology, dating back from my childhood. My first schooling in England was very pagan, then during high school (Church of England), I became involved with the church and took up Religious studies for my final years.”
Now living in Australia for the past fourteen years, Hayley has developed an interest in Aboriginal culture and European / Australian tales from the early settlers and the similarities and effect they have on each other.

This Conference is the 7th in a series of international conferences devoted to advanced materials and processing. The Conference, which is held every three years, is jointly sponsored by the Chinese Society for Metals (CSM), The Japan Institute of Metals (JIM), The Korean Institute of Metals and Materials (KIM), Materials Australia (MA), and The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS) and organised in rotation. The purpose of PRICM is to provide an attractive forum for the exchange of scientific and technological information on materials and processing. The first Conference was held in Hanzhou, China, in 1992, followed by the second in Kyongju, Korea, in 1995, the third in Hawaii, USA, in 1998, the fifth in Beijing, China, in 2004, the sixth in Jeju Island, Korea, in 2007. This is the first time for the PRICM to be held in Australia. Cairns is a tropical city in the northern part of Queensland. It is an excellent base for exploring the Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef system in the world and one of the seven wonders of the natural world. You can find further information at http://www.cairnsinfo.com and http://www.cairnsconvention.com.au.
This year, National Tree Day, proudly sponsored by Toyota, will be held on Sunday 1 August nation-wide. Co-founded by Olivia Newton-John and Planet Ark in 1996, it has become Australia’s largest community tree-planting event. Last year's event saw more than a million native trees and shrubs planted at over 3,000 sites around the country.
From caring for our coasts and beaches to building a home for native animals, to growing a garden in the grounds of a school, there are endless opportunities and experiences that volunteers can enjoy this National Tree Day.
For more information on how you can get involved, call the National Tree Day Hotline on 1300 88 5000 or visit treeday.planetark.org.

How many entertainers from Australasia can claim to have partied with Elvis, talked footy with Tom Jones, dated I dream of Jeannie's Barbara Eden, headlined a Vegas show room, and had chart success in the US, the UK and Australia and New Zealand for the past 40 years? You're about to find out when John Rowles heads to regional Queensland this August.
Born and bred in New Zealand, John Rowles' big break came at age 20 when he was discovered by CLIFF RICHARD'S manager PETER GORMLEY. Under the guidance of Gormley, Rowles' fan base exploded following the release of his debut single IF ONLY I HAD TIME. The single reached number two in the UK, New Zealand and Australia and saw Rowles perform on some of the world's biggest television programs and most famous stages.
As well as appearances on TOP OF THE POPS and THE BOB HOPE SHOW, Rowles was invited to perform to a crowd of 68,000 at a NASA benefit concert.
John's relationship with Australia has spanned 46 years when he and fellow New Zealander Eddie Low moved to Australia in 1963 after signing a nine-month contract to sing at the Riverside Inn in Melbourne. After that contract expired, John moved to Sydney and joined a group called ‘The Dingdongers'. John stayed with them for about a year and during his time with them, the group changed their name to ‘The Sundowners'.
'Blackbird' is a compelling Australian story, told through a 90 minute theatricalised song cycle. It is also a challenging artistic journey for an emerging indigenous woman artist, and represents the outcome of a six-year creative mentorship guided by senior artists.
‘Blackbird’ explores Megan’s own journey, as she learns the store of her family’s history from her tough and emotionally remote great grandmother, Flora. Megan’s compassion deepens as she comes to terms with the forces that shaped Flora and the generations of women who followed her, as well as those who went before. ‘Blackbird’ creates six strong, characteristic voices as Megan presents the distilled experiences of six generations coming down in the end to her own experience, constantly transforming – even through the moment of performance.
'Blackbird' celebrates resilience, courage, humour and family. The hardest song for Megan to sing, and the one moment of utter despair in 'Blackbird' relates the story of Emily, Kitty's mother, one of the only Ngadjon-ji elders to remain living around Malanda (the Rainforest tribes were taken away to settlements off country) who was taken in 1955 at the age of 85 to
Palm Island, where she died.
By reaching back through an act of empathy and imagination to her foremothers' experiences, Megan brings them back home, for herself. 'Blackbird' links the 19th Century to the present moment through an unbroken chain of experience: from white contact experienced in the rainforest by Flora's Grandmother Emily, to the present. By revisiting these gripping
stories Megan (and the audience) discover the strength of her connection to this compelling history with enormous implications for her quest for identity.
Show times are 6.30PM Tuesdays and Wednesday, 8.00PM Thursday to Saturday. There are no performances Mondays and Sundays. Opening Night packages may be available closer to the date.
A Gong Bath will leave you feeling Relaxed, Rejuvenated, Refreshed, Revitalised and Re-energised.
