DOWN UNDER
Helen Collins
2 April – 7 May 2011
Mixed Media - Contemporary Conceptual Expressionism
In life you see exteriors. What you see on the surface is directly influenced by what’s underneath. This is representative of everything in life as well as is art – a rose bloom is the result of how well it has been nurtured and treated. This exhibition is an attempt to connect the two. It attempts to capture the influences that shaped and created the exterior. It sends the message that beneath the surface is a lifetime journey –a journey unique to each of us; and something that is often hidden or camouflaged.
In her work, Helen endeavours to create an emotional connection rather than a contemporary clear image, as no person’s journey is without twists, emotions and upset. The works capture inner feelings and emotions via the use of heightened colour and deliberate play with content. The work is conceptual. The viewer is required to analyse the image rather than the image instantly reveal itself.
Helen completed a Diploma of Visual Arts through Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE in 2007 and subsequently completed a Bachelor of Creative Industries at James Cook University. This is her first solo exhibition, having previously participated in several group exhibitions.

Watsu is a form developed by Harold Dunn in the 1980's by floating his Zen Shiatsu students in the warm pool at Harbin Hot Springs by applying stretches and moves; and further developed in clinics and spas globally.
Watsu is a gentle form of bodywork therapy performed in warm water. It combines elements of massage, joint mobilization, muscle stretching and dance.
There are documented benefits in decreasing pain and improving quality of movement for people with many serious conditions including traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, arthritis, and fibromyalgia.
During the workshop participants will be guided on how to stay grounded while floating, stretching the body in rhythm to the breath and deepening a meditative state.
There is a total of 10 hours in a warm pool for both the giver and receiver and 6 hours on land where participants can explore the different levels of being.

Using Cranio-Sacral Therapy as a tool to treat wholistically
Self healing through awareness and visualization
The workshop begins with an introduction to the different modalities of healing, exploring wholistic concepts, energy centres and using the mind and senses as a diagnostic tool. The principles of cranio-sacral therapy and its traditional application to human anatomy and physiology are discussed followed by practical sessions on both days

Returning to Australia in 2011....Imperial Russian Ballet Company’s “Festival of Russian Ballet”.
The Festival of Russian Ballet features a diverse and stunning programme in three awe-inspiring acts.
Act One – Don Quixote
Don Quixote was first performed in Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre in 1869. Since then it has been performed all over the world by Russian and International companies.
Former Bolshoi soloist and head of the Imperial Russian Ballet Company, Gediminas Taranda, has taken the four acts of the original ballet with its gradual evolution and transformed it into one impetuous act.
Act Two – Bolero
Bolero is a striking and dramatic ballet. Ravel was inspired to create this masterpiece after visiting a large industrial factory. There he noticed the slow regular movement of the assembly lines and the crash of machine and materials. Bolero is regarded as one of the world’s music masterpieces.
Act Three – Highlights from the world’s great ballets including Giselle, Carmen, The Dying Swan and Le Corsaire. Also in Act Three, Gopak and Ne Me Quittes Pas, Can Can Surprise
The Imperial Russian Ballet Company have performed this three-hour ballet extravaganza all around the world, thrilling audiences and impressing critics. Richard Mays writing in The Evening Standard wrote:
Ballet virtuosity stuns audience
AN ASTOUNDING and exhilarating three-hour programme brought most ballet fans to their feet last night.
Perhaps the few who remained seated were simply stunned by excess, as this touring ballet treasure trove heaped pleasure upon delight, capping virtuosity with even more outstanding steps, leaps and turns.
