Energy Exhibition Cell Art Space Awards is the region’s showcase of some of the best young emerging artistic talent. Through their artworks, the exhibiting art students demonstrate a high degree of sophistication in concepts, diversity of art forms and media.
Works exhibited as part of the Energy Exhibition Cell Art Space Awards can include drawing, painting, photography, innovative installation and multimedia works.
Energy Exhibition Cell Art Space Awards provides students with another opportunity to present their works to the community in a professional exhibition context and is one of the region’s most popular art exhibitions.

‘ASK about suicide’ is a 2 day seminar that will invite you to increase your awareness, skills and knowledge of mental illness, distress and suicide.
Staff of community organisations will be given the opportunity to explore how these common experiences may affect people and how you can offer support.
You will learn a variety of skills that can be applied in different circumstances. These skills will cover the full spectrum of situations from early intervention and prevention to assisting in a crisis.
The primary objective of the ‘ASK about suicide’ 2 day seminar is to increase knowledge and skills to help staff of NFP organisations feel more prepared, confident, ready, willing and able to help a person at risk or in crisis.
ASIST - Explore your beliefs around suicide and develop the skills to be ready willing and able to intervene when a person is at risk of suicide.
Formed in 1996 by Miss Stella Massey, the orchestra is now under the direction of musician Amy Stevens. The concert at 3pm will feature the orchestra's ensembles and soloists, and guest speakers Miss Stella Massey and Mr Malcolm Cole speaking about the history of the orchestra and music in the Cairns region. There will be a photographic display for viewing. Gold coin donation for afternoon tea.

This is expected to be the largest Trade Fair to be conducted in the Cairns area. Our Exhibitor Sites are very generous in size and our fee's are well priced for a Trade Fair of this quality. We are able to offer 90 indoor sites with an additional 45 sites in our outdoor recreational area.
This Trade Fair is all about Cairns and how we, as a businesses community, can network together to assist each other with the economic difficulties that Cairns is experiencing at the moment.

SYDNEY TRAVELLING FILM FESTIVAL COMES TO CAIRNS 11-13 NOVEMBER

The Sydney Travelling Film Festival lifts the curtain on its annual event in Cairns, bringing a weekend of world cinema and three very special guests to Cairns City Cinema, 11-13 November.
The festival will offer audiences tales from France, Israel, Norway, UK, Italy, Japan, USA, Argentina and Australia. The program caters to all tastes, from life in a monastery to classic Australian comedy, road trips and French animation.
Special guests this year include At The Movies film critics, David Stratton (founder of the Travelling Film Festival in 1974 and Sydney Film Festival Director 1966-83) and Margaret Pomeranz who will introduce the Cairns festival’s Opening Night Australian feature, The Hunter - a gripping physiological drama based on the novel by Julia Leigh and directed by Daniel Nettheim, starring Willem Dafoe and Sam Neill.
To celebrate their 25 years together on Australian television, Margaret and David will also
present at Cairns a special screening of P. J. Hogan’s classic 1994 Queensland comedy, Muriel’s Wedding.
Another special guest at Cairns is iconic country music singer, Chad Morgan, who is hosting
a Q&A after the screening of the Australian documentary I’m Not Dead Yet – the story of Chad’s legendry life of almost 60 years on the road, narrated by Australian rocker Tex Perkins.
Alongside these Australian features is the winner of four Israeli Academy Awards – The Human Resources Manager and Academy Award® nominated animation by Sylvian Chomet (Triplets of Belleville) The Illusionist. The festival line up also includes Official Selections from the Sydney Film Festival; the winner of the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, Happy Happy; romantic comedy Medianeras, the internationally acclaimed Le Quattro Volte and new documentary from Errol Morris, Tabloid. The closing night film is the visually ravishing adaptation of Haruki Murakami's best-selling novel, Norwegian Wood, with an evocative score from Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead.
The Cairns Sydney Travelling Film Festival also showcases three acclaimed Australian short films including Nullarbor, winner of the 2011 Yoram Gross Animation Award at Sydney Film (screens with The Illusionist) and finalists in the Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films – Cropped, in an outback home a family makes a mysterious discovery (screen with The Human Resources Manager) and Owen Trevor’s Two Laps, a tale of a two men and their annual race (screens with Happy, Happy).

The Thundamentals boys are frothing for the 'Foreverlution Album Launch Tour' following a hectic schedule with national support slots for Outkast's Big Boi and a 15 date tour with local legend Drapht. Foreverlution, released on July 29, is now available through Obese Records, debuting nationally at #3 on the Air Charts, and #19 on the ARIA Top 20 Australian Album Charts. 'Paint the Town Red', the album's lead single, was immediately added to triple J rotation and was the 9th most dowloaded track on Australian radio on the week of release.

Our Coral Sea: The Story, The History is an exhibition and special performance that will take you on a journey though the dramatic history of the Coral Sea, the changing perceptions towards our oceans and why the Coral Sea deserves a high level of protection.
Find out how shipwrecks, Matthew Flinders, emus, whales, war and natural wonders combine to form the history of one of Australia's most remote and special ocean regions. A dramatic performance will take you on an entertaining voyage across the Coral Sea and through time.
Presented by the Cairns and Far North Environment Centre as part of the Protect Our Coral Sea campaign; which is calling on the federal government to establish a highly protected, very large marine park in the Coral Sea within Australian waters, in recognition of its enormous environmental value and historic significance.

Sean Choolburra has carved his niche as Australia’s No 1 indigenous entertainer. After winning the NSW Raw Comedy final in 2002, Sean has gone on to prove himself as a dynamic and versatile comedian, rap singer, dancer, storyteller, actor and hiphop didge player.
In 2009, Sean successfully performed at the Scottish Storytelling Festival and at the tenth anniversary of message stick. 2008 was a busy year for Sean with successful seasons at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Adelaide Fringe Festival and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. He also hosted the Deadly Funnies in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth and performed at the MICF Gala on the ten network. Sean also featured on Thank God You’re Here.
He has performed at the Opera House and the Melbourne Comedy Festival with his one man show Oil of my Land , which draws on his life experiences and provides him with the perfect opportunity to blend his skills as a dancer with his didge playing ability.

FIRST TIME IN CAIRNS - Cultural Music Performance - Native American & Aboriginal
Sowing the Seeds of Love is the theme of Peace Ambassador and Native American, J. Reuben Silverbird's Australian music events.
Reuben is an accomplished musician, singer and performer. He will sing, dance, play flute, guitar and other percussive instruments to his own original music compositions, ranging from traditional Native American to modern tunes.
This musical performance is an interactive experience and will be opened with an Aboriginal Blessing and Ceremony from the heart.
Get drawn into the roots of Native Culture, listen to the deep heart rhythms of the drums, enjoy the amazing tunes of a Native American flute, join into the chants and experience the atmosphere of live music, song and dance.
A drug and alcohol free experience for the whole family.
Reuben is engaging his audience, and explains the healing power of music, song and dance. He will be playing favourites from his albums "Shaman Spirit" and "Indian Circle", plus introducing his new CD "Ageless Love".
His passion for music is evident and he is able to transform the atmosphere through his stage presence, raising the energy to high levels.
There is an option to participate in a spectacular pre-concert welcome by the Lakeside, including welcome drink, traditional Aboriginal Bang-gaa canapes and the Tjapukai Dancers.
Reuben will also hold a full day event on 26 Nov 2011 from 10am.
This year the Cairns Crocs Triathlon Club have decided to hold a fun run/walk as a Movember Fundraiser. This will be a fun run/walk with 3 distances, achievable by anyone and everyone. There will be a Mo-Kids Mile (1.6km), Beyond Blue Dash (3km) and the Prostate 5000 (5km). This will be held at the northern end of the esplanade, on the 27/11. This event will be open to all Mo-bro's, Mo-sista's and Mo-kid's, and of course all the proceeds going toward the Movember Foundation. The Snow Queen rules her magical kingdom with a heart of ice and a grip as cold as steel. When shards of an enchanted mirror fly into Cei’s eye he falls under its spell. He becomes cold-hearted and the Snow Queen steals him away to her far-away land. With Cei as her helper, The Snow Queen has a chilling plan: to freeze the hearts of all living things and rule supreme over a world of snow and ice. Only little Gerda, Cei’s childhood friend, believes he can still be rescued and sets out on a life-changing journey to save Cei and defeat the Snow Queen.
