Cairns Events Let's Do This

The annual Great Adventures Green Island Ocean Swim, now in its 12th year, invites swimmers of 12 years and over to compete in the sparkling waters off Green Island.

Competitors have a choice of 500m, 1.5km or 3km distances in this unique Great Barrier Reef swim. Spectators are welcome and a free Nipper/Junior swim for those under the age of 12 will also take place.

This unique Great Barrier Reef competition takes place on the leeward side of the island with each leg of the event offering a variety of conditions from shallows to wind chop and tidal flow. Water temperatures around this time of year average 24 degrees with air temperatures around 28 degrees.

The Great Adventures Green Island Swim is a community event and is supported by Surf Life Saving Queensland and the Cairns Crocs.

Please note spectators are welcome and can be registered to travel at a discounted rate. The Nippers swim is a great way for under 12s to get involved too, and has no registration fee.

Race Information:

The 500m, 1.5km and 3km swims are open to swimmers 12-years and over. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place overall for men and women in the 1.5km and 3km event. Prizes will also be presented to 500m swimmers. A nipper’s/beginner’s swim will take place on a course parallel to the beach. Registration is on the day and is free of charge.

Fast catamaran transfer for competitors and spectators to Green Island is with Great Adventures departing at 8.30am from Cairns Reef Fleet Terminal.

The Ocean Swim will commence on Green Island, Sunday 27 August 2017 at approximately 10am.
