John Ferwerda master violin maker comes from Melbourne to show us how to make string instruments.

About the Master:
John Ferwerda studied violin making with Rudolf van Merrebach in Amsterdam, then studied/qualified at Mittenwald School of Violin Making. Outside the school, learnt at various violin makers (Karl Sandner, Hans Klotz, Johann Stuber, and Charles Bazin) in Germany and Holland for a total of 6 years andlearnt bow making and re-hairing in France under Charles Bazin. In 1972 he started his own violin business in Adelaide, then he moved to Melbourne. In 1973 he became a government appointed valuer. He conducts classes for violin making for students wishing to learn the art of instrument making and trained 12 professional violin makers in Europe and Australia. He received the Workmanship Award of the Violin Making Society of America (VSA), USA, in 1978 and in 1982.

Stella Massey, well known Cairns based violinist, has commended John Ferwerda as "the greatest bow rehairer" and has proudly supporting this workshop even though she can not be there in person.
