This is a Free Event.
"Projection Art is the new fireworks" creating accessible public art in a living environment, an urban street festival designed to make the emerging hybrid digital art-form, a unique lens to explore the landscape of Cairns CBD.
Over three nights from November 11, the Culture Mechanics team will bring together local Cairns artists. Works will be projected down alleyways, in shop windows, against buildings, and on the move via roving events across the Cairns CBD.
An illuminate Cairns map will lead you on a self-guided interactive treasure hunt along a 12 stop illuminated trail of public / visual / performance art and screen culture.
The Festival lights up from Friday, November 11 with an opening night party 6pm to 9pm at Rydges Plaza LILO bar - upstairs 50 Grafton St, Cairns. which will run concurrently with projections from the winners of the Cairns Post Colouring-in Competition at 22 Abbott Street, Cairns.
This first projection art festival is a showcase of local artists who employ everything from multi-media, painting, live vision mixing and virtual reality to create interactive pieces that encourage audiences to become part of the artistic act of transforming prominent Cairns buildings with colours, abstract visuals, natural scenes and artworks.
Illuminate Cairns celebrates cultural diversity, the talent of local artists, and the invigoration of dormant CBD spaces. The event will connect a broad range of artists, innovators, designers, performers and will have something to appeal to all ages and cultural backgrounds.
Come out and see Cairns in a new light!
