Cairns Events Let's Do This

A date for jazz lovers to note. Saturday August 31 when the annual Jazz Under The Stars concert is held on the Botanic Gardens’ back lawn.

Organised by the Friends of the Botanic Gardens, the concert, one of the final events in Cairns Festival, features a terrific line-up of artists. 

The evening starts with Jazz Troppo, a five-piece New Orleans style Dixie band, who will perform on the lawn and mingle with the audience. 

Next comes the Mike Price band with singer Wilma Reading, saxophonist Mike Rivett, bass player Giles Smith and drummer Joe Vizzone. 

Following them is the four-piece group Fingerprint with singer Juanita Petersen with her brand of jazz, and rhythm and blues. 

Finally, the Mike Price band returns with pianist and vocalist Larry Thompson from the Townsville Jazz Club.

The gate opens at 4.30pm and the concert starts at 5.30pm, finishing at 9.30pm. 

Bring along a picnic and a blanket or chair and sit back and enjoy a night of great jazz.
