MASQUEERADE is a same sex-attracted, gender diverse, intersex prom for young people in far north Queensland (FNQ). Come as you are!

Did you not get to take your partner to your school formal?

Lets face it - Far North Queensland is gorgeous but is not known for being open minded. We thought we could help change that by runing an event where people aged 15-21 who are LGBTIA+ and their partners can come along to an event that was completely supportive, safe and fun.

Anyone who is between 15-21 and identify as same sex attracted, gender diverse, intersex and their friends/partners are welcome to come along for a night of drag shows, good music, food and dancing at The Tanks Art Centre.

This is the first event of its kind in FNQ and the organisers hope that it will be the first of many similar events and will attract diverse young people from around the region. This event is for anyone in Far North Queensland not just Cairns. If you think you might be interested give us a yell and we will see what we can do to help you getting to this event.

The Basics:

Theme: Masquerade, come as you are!
Age: 15-21 year olds
Price: $20 includes meal, performances and entry
Drug and alcohol free
Performers, DJ and chill-out space
Safe, friendly, inclusive space

Support available - Contact us at YETI if you live outside of Cairns and need help attending the event.

The preparations are ramping up and it’s going to be amazing! The event is being organised by YETI (Youth Empowered Towards Independence) with a core group of young LGBTIQ+ people, members of the local LGBTIQ+ community and other local social services in Cairns.

The hope is that the event will provide a safe, friendly and inclusive space for young people who identify as same sex-attracted, gender diverse or intersex from around the region to connect and share in a special event that celebrates diversity and is an alternative to the more traditional, high school formal.
