The Bats and Trees Society of Cairns (BatSoc) Inc takes great pleasure in inviting you to the eighth Cairns Bat Festival on Sunday, June 11th 2023 at Wharf One Café, Cairns from 4 pm – 7 pm.

Cairns Bat Festival is part of the annual Australasian Bat Night program and we would be delighted to have your presence at our festival in the week following World Environment Day to highlight the values of the wet tropics region, its wildlife and what we as part of the community can do to promote and conserve this special place.

The Wet Tropics region contains 48% of Australian bat species including the endangered spectacled flying-fox, a keystone species to the bioregion. Other bats are important to our forests and farms through their role as predators of agricultural pests.

This twilight gala event function, sponsored by Cairns Regional Council, will be held at Wharf One Café, Trinity Wharf. As well as our normal program of inspirational speakers, community information stalls, local live music, a walk to detect echolocating bats and a raffle to raise funds for bat care, we will be giving information on how we can live with bats for the benefit of bats and people and updating the community on our Save our Spectacled Flying-fox Watch survey and Habitat Restoration and Engaging Science citizen science projects. We will also be showcasing our new education products, including the Big Book of Bat-tivities by local author, Matilda Bishop and officially launching the new Spectacled Flying-fox eco board game by another local artist, Britta Jackle. Britta is the creator of www,gamesconnect.com.au and the Spectacled Flying-fox is the latest in the stable of FNQ species featured joining the Cassowary, Tree Kangaroo, platypus and marine turtles in these educational and fun games.

The Cairns Bat Festival is an official satellite event of EcoFiesta and we will be at the Bat Zone at EcoFiesta the week before on Sunday 4 June.
